Kantango^tm stores all of its words in native hiragana and katakana. For convenience, a romaji input method is supported. There are a few rules you need to know in order to use the system effectively.

Upper/Lower Case

Use lowercase characters to represent hiragana. Use uppercase characters for katakana.

Examples:

hiragana	>>>	ひらがな
KATAKANA	>>>	カタカナ

Use single quote to disambiguate

In some cases, you need to disambiguate n from na, ni, nu, ne no, nya, nyu, nyo. Do this using single quote.

Examples:

kin'youbi	>>>	きんようび
ken'ichi	>>>	けんいち
gen'in	>>>	げんいん
genin	>>>	げにん
kon'yaku	>>>	こんやく

Use di and du to add nigori to chi and tsu.

You need to be careful about when to use du versus zu. They might sound the same but represent different characters.

DOA-HINDI	>>>	ドアーヒンヂ
